Caroline is an interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY working across performance, video, and installation. She is a commissioned OPEN CALL 2021 artist at The Shed and has presented work at Spring/Break Art Fair, Olsen Gruin Gallery, Movement Research at Judson Church, Smack Mellon, Creative Time Summit X, A.I.R. Biennale, The Vera List Center, and Hesse Flatow; as well as internationally at The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Manila Biennale, and Art Central Hong Kong. She is a past resident at the EMPAC, MASS MoCA, ISCP, and is currently a Tech Resident at Pioneer Works.

Caroline Garcia’s project proposal was to work on three different components of new video work. These components included 3D scanning, motion capture, and 3D modeling to narrativize an archipelagic journey on a “soul-boat” through the underworld into the afterlife, borrowing from mythologies from the Philippine Islands. She recorded herself rowing a boat on water using motion capture technologies. She paddled in the McLane Center pool and filmed footage for AI-mocap software, and also explored real-time motion tracking by using a Kinect camera and 360 degrees underwater video recording.
