Institute for Electronic Arts

The Institute for Electronic Arts is a high technology research studio facility within the School of Art and Design, NYSCC, Alfred University, New York. The IEA encourages and supports projects that involve interactive multi-media systems, experimental sonic/video production, digital imaging, and publications. The IEA is committed to developing cultural interactions spurred by technological experimentation and artistic investigations. The Institute for Electronic Art’s Experimental Projects Residency is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and the Schein-Joseph Endowment.

OUR RESIDENCIES

THE IEA HAS TWO EXPERIMENTAL PROJECT RESIDENCY PROGRAMS, ONE FOR ELECTRONIC MEDIA / FILM (TIME-BASED) AND ONE FOR VISUAL ART (PRINT-MEDIA). BOTH PROGRAMS SUPPORT ARTISTS WITH A ONE OR TWO-WEEK RESIDENCY, AN ARTIST STIPEND, TRAVEL-SUPPORT, LODGING, TECHNOLOGY ACCESS, MATERIALS, AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. ARTISTS HAVE ACCESS TO A COMBINATION OF EMERGING, CONTEMPORARY, AND HISTORICAL MEDIA ARTS TOOLS AND MATERIALS, MANY ARE UNIQUE AND NOT ORDINARILY AVAILABLE IN A STUDIO SETTING. THE RESIDENT ARTISTS HAVE 24-HOUR DEDICATED ACCESS TO THE IEA STUDIO AND EQUIPMENT. THE IEA RESEARCH SPECIALIST WILL WORK WITH THE RESIDENT ARTIST. ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL STAFF AND FACULTY ARE ALSO AVAILABLE FOR CONSULTATION.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: ONLY NEW YORK STATE RESIDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS RESIDENCY. STUDENTS ENROLLED DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. *WE RECOMMEND YOU READ THE IEA RESIDENCY CALLS CAREFULLY TO ASSURE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR THE CORRECT RESIDENCY PROGRAM.
