On Sunday, Feb 15, 2026 Althea Murphy-Price (@altheamurphyprice) completed her two-week Print + New Media residency with us! During her time, Althea completed a limited edition print, Participation Award and began exploring other compositions and materials for further work inspired by this edition. Participation Award is available for purchase through ieaEditions.

I have long been interested in pursuing a residency at the iea, so I was thrilled to accept the invitation. The iea has a longstanding reputation for its exploration of expanded forms of printmaking, and I welcomed the opportunity to work alongside experienced individuals who understand how to integrate new technologies into an artistic practice. My time during this residency not only met my expectations, but I was also fortunate to collaborate with individuals who encouraged me to experiment.

My recent work explores three primary themes: achievement, protection, and decoration. Participation Award was inspired by unacknowledged effort. The piece presents a formal, gridded background upon which a colorful arrangement of flat ribbon shapes is carefully organized, appearing to dangle from an armature-like structure. The colors within the collaged elements reference awards given for lowest performance, subtly questioning how we assign value and recognition. I fully embrace the flatness of color and the spatial shapes created through screenprint and collage, allowing their deliberate two-dimensionality heightens the meaning of the dimensional.”
