Fiat 186

Dear Alfred University students, staff, and faculty:

On August. 20, Alfred University began our 186th year by welcoming our new undergraduate students through an Opening Convocation. Our students heard inspiring words from Dr. Cheryl Blanchard, a 1986 alumna and Alfred University trustee who has enjoyed a distinguished career as a biomedical scientist and business executive. Among her many accomplishments, Cheryl is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the CEO of publicly-traded Anika Therapeutics.

Cheryl spoke about what a transformational experience Alfred University proved to be for her on account of our inclusive, welcoming culture and the intersections we afford with a wide range of curricular and co-curricular offerings.

Carson Grover ‘22, president of the Student Senate, also spoke of his own transformational journey and offered words of advice to our new students, encouraging them to immerse themselves in Alfred University and take advantage of all it has to offer.

Please join me in thanking Cheryl and Carson for their thoughtful remarks. Carson deserves a special shout-out for the beautiful manner in which he sang our University’s alma mater toward the close of our Opening Convocation.
