Fiat Songs of Alfred

This week, Alfred University began to salute all health care and emergency response personnel with recitals on the Davis Memorial Carillon. Shortly after 7 p.m., on alternating weekdays,

Laurel Buckwalter ’89 MS, carilloneur emerita, and Stephen Crandall ’76, ’97 MS, retired dean emeritus of our libraries, are performing 10-minute concerts.

Laurel’s recital this evening, beginning at 7:02 p.m., will be broadcast live on the Davis Memorial Carillon Facebook page. The short program will feature songs of Alfred (our Alma Mater and the Alfred Evening Song); America; America, the Beautiful; and God Bless America. At approximately 7:10 p.m., there will be a pealing of the bells to show our appreciation for the health care personnel and emergency responders serving with dedication in the battle against the COVID-19 virus.

We are currently discussing a future broadcast schedule with Laurel and Steve, which we will announce in subsequent emails.

At the conclusion of each evening’s recital, we encourage members of our Alfred University community to step outside their homes and clap and/or shout words of support as a show of appreciation and solidarity with the women and men presently serving on the COVID-19 front lines.

Fiat songs of Alfred!
