Janet Ballweg is a visual artist working primarily in print. Her studio practice explores the ways in which patterns shape our lives \u2013 the ways in which constructions of memory, experience, and gender are embodied in the domestic landscape. Her work integrates traditional and contemporary printmaking technologies as a means to invoke a sense of \u201cother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ballweg\u2019s work has been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her prints can be found in permanent collections across the globe, including the China Printmaking Museum, Shenzhen, China; the Douro Art Museum, Douro, Portugal; Turner Print Museum, Chico, CA; Bibliotheque et Archives Nationales du Quebec, Canada; Kanagawa Prefectural Gallery, Kanagawa, Japan; Guanlan Print Base, Guanlan, China; Guanzhou Art Museum, Guangzhou, China; New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, LA; Chengdu Academy of Fine Art, Sichuan, China; Southwest Missouri Museum, Springfield, MO; Arte\/Desarrollo Humano Workshop, Monterrey NL, Mexico; Center for Book Arts, NYC; Florean Museum, Carbunari, Romania; and the International Graphics Museum, Giza, Egypt.<\/p>\n

Having earned a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and an MFA from the University of Illinois (Champaign\/Urbana), Ballweg went on to teach at Bowling Green State University. She currently resides in Bowling Green, OH.<\/p>\n

Janet spent two busy weeks using the iea and Expanded Media facilities, utilizing laser woodblocks with the offset press and fusing screenprint available technologies. In addition to new research and trials with RISO, one edition for ieaEditions was created during the second week \u2013 a tightly registered screenprint featuing 21 colors on Rives BFK.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe screenprint is a continuation of a series of prints that use patterning. In this print, I pushed the level of patterning and the scale of the work, both of which have me re-thinking the direction of my work.<\/p>\n

The print combining laser-engraving and screenprint helped me see the potential for mixing print media to create varied surfaces. I had been experimenting with laser-engraving prior to this residency, but had not had the opportunity to fully realize a print at this level until now.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
