During the week Monica and Senem worked on two projects: “Confessions on a Transmission Line”<\/em> and “Surface Connection”.<\/em> For their “Confessions…”<\/em> project they created a multi-camera shoot, generating additional footage for the in-progress two-channel installation.<\/p>\n

The Alfred Community had a great first-hand experience of Duncan & Pirler’s “Surface Connection”<\/em> project with a live-stream performance<\/a> from a transformed iea studio that became the stage for the event. The performance was on October 16, 2020 and was the first livestream event to be hosted by the iea on our new YouTube<\/a> channel.<\/p>\n

During the residency, Monica and Senem were able to integrate the iea studio with their own extensive equipment-set for the livestream event. The iea workspace residencies not only provide artists with a studio week but also share studio knowledge and research with artists to take with them as they develop their own studios and studio practice.<\/p>\n

Monica Duncan and Senem Pirler create video and audiovisual performances that investigate everyday objects, concepts of agency and queer potentiality. Pirler is a sound artist whose work is interdisciplinary in nature. Duncan\u2019s video work investigates the nature of visual perception and audience-performer dynamics through camouflage, stillness and collective image-making. Their work has been shown at Collar Works, Revolutions Per Minute Festival, KLEX Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Video & Music Festival, Transient Visions: Festival of the Moving Image and they have been artists-in-residence at Signal Culture and PACT Zollverein.<\/p>\n
