[vc_row row_height_percent=”0″ override_padding=”yes” h_padding=”4″ top_padding=”2″ bottom_padding=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column][vc_column_text]Scott McCarney<\/a>, of Rochester, NY, visited the iea the week of June 1st for a residency in our experimental projects program. Scott, who teaches classes in bookmaking at the Rochester Institute of Technology, creates sculptural objects and photo-based editions as one-of-a-kind, hand-made pieces, as well as small runs of print-on-demand books. His paper works and books have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are in permanent collections of Getty Center in Los Angeles, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art Library in New York City and the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, among many others.<\/p>\n

Scott’s primary focus during his residency was to experiment using the laser cutter to cut pages for his books out of thick stock paper for assemblage. Producing editions of books becomes for more feasible with each page not having to be cut by hand. By the end of his residency, Scott had produced small editions of two new works to be assembled back at his studio in Rochester.<\/p>\n
