Room Selection for Next Year
Dear Alfred University Family Member,
It is almost time for room sign-ups for the 25-26 academic year. My hope is to solicit your support in encouraging your student to get signed up for housing, which is a key indicator of student persistence. All students will soon start receiving the information below:
The two most important pieces of this process are filling out a housing license/application in full (It is not fully completed until they get a confirmation email), which students can find at: https://alfred.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com/ALFRED_THDSS_PROD. This will bring them to their AU Housing Self-Service portal and the applications tab.
The second item, if your student is hoping to live in the suites or apartments, is selecting a roommate/ group. Students must fill suites/apartments and rooms completely to be able to select them. The process for students to request roommates/groups for priority consideration is:
- To find roommates, go to the “Rooms & Roommates tab” within the AU Housing Self Service Portal.
- At the top of the page, find the “For the Term” drop-down menu set for Fall 2025.
- Search for the person you would like to add as a roommate. Only individuals who have finished an application may be searchable.
- Request that person.
- That individual must confirm you as well.
There are limited numbers of singles, so you should request a roommate to have priority and feel comfortable with the person(s) you’ll be living with.
Selection times are distributed by earned credits, and each style of housing has its own process.
Residential Communities will also be facilitating tabling and information sessions prior to the room selection experience. I encourage students to come to one of the events below if they have questions.
- Tabling in Powell Campus Center and Ade Dining Hall will be held throughout February and early March. Encourage your students to stop by and ask any questions they may have.
- Information sessions about the overall housing selection process will be held in Nevins theater.
- There will also be recordings created and sent out to educate students on how to navigate the AU-Housing Self Service system.
Housing Selection: will begin on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
- Tuesday, March 18, 2025: Single room process
- Wednesday, March 19, 2025: Groups of four and six students selecting into the Ford Street Apartments and Pine Hill Suites
- Thursday, March 20, 2025: Double room process for Connors, the Brick, and Joel’s House
- Friday, March 21, 2025: Students who haven’t selected on either of the above days, can select into available open spaces.
Housing Waiver Process (only if your student intends to live off-campus)
Alfred University has a six semester live-on requirement for its students. Only students who are approved via the waiver process are allowed to live off campus. For the complete waiver process, please click here, https://my.alfred.edu/student-policies/residency-requirement-policy.cfm To complete the waiver request, process please submit a waiver request in the AU Housing Self Service portal. DO NOT SIGN A LEASE FOR OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING until you are notified that your waiver has been approved.
- Waiver approvals will not occur until final grades have posted in May.
- You can and should go through the room selection process and the waiver process at the same time.
- If you have completed the six semesters and want to move off-campus, you will need to attend a seminar. These seminars will be conducted from March through May, and the information will be sent out at a later date.
- Unless your waiver specifically states that you are waived from campus housing for the remainder of your enrollment at AU, you need to submit a waiver each year.
- Students who fail to comply with the Housing Policy will be charged at the double room rate and the lowest meal plan for which they are eligible for each semester registered for classes.
I know this is a lot of information, but I hope you, as a family member of an Alfred University student, feel informed about the housing sign-up and selection process. Please be a partner in getting your student to act on the above information. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Max Koskoff
Director, Office of Residential Communities
