It’s that time of the year when the snow turns our magic valley into a winter wonderland. Even in this picturesque setting, our expert crew of approximately 10 members from The Grounds and Events Department of the Division of Facilities work hard to keep students and faculty safe throughout the winter.

Our crew maintains campus roadways, parking lots, sidewalks and exterior staircases and is augmented with members from other Facilities’ departments. The Division of Facilities also employs five student workers who assist the crew. During snow events, the shoveling, plowing, and salting begins between 4 and 6 a.m., depending on the severity and timing of the event. The University has three sidewalk plows and five plow trucks to maintain that work continually during the event. We house our own stockpile of sand and salt to melt the ice and snow.
