The Alfred University Saxon Athletic Teams are wrapping up the 2025 Fall Season. The Men’s Rugby, Women’s Rugby, Women’s Tennis, Women’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball teams all saw successful regular seasons as they entered postseason action.

The Men’s Rugby team entered its postseason with a 6-1 record (one technical forfeit victory over Ithaca). Out of the wins, the final three of the regular season saw the Saxons outscore their opponents, 245-38. They went on to defeat Geneseo in the LERC Playoffs, 69-17 from Yunevich Stadium, before bowing out of the tournament during the championship round at Brockport, 29-21.
Women’s Rugby finished the regular season with a 3-3 record, good enough to qualify for the UNYCRC Conference Championship Tournament. The Saxons had two technical forfeit victories to advance to the championship round where they defeated SUNY Potsdam, 60-22 to claim the 15’s Plate Championship title.
The Women’s Tennis team ended the regular season with a 10-4 record and was 5-3 in Empire 8 action. During the first round of the Empire 8 Tournament, the Saxons got revenge for a road loss at St. John Fisher University, having fell at the Cardinals’ home courts, 4-3 back in late September. AU earned a 4-2 win as the No. 5 seed on the road at No. 4 Fisher in the first round of the playoffs, before falling to No. 1 seed and eventual champions, Hartwick College, 4-0. Five Saxons earned All-Empire 8 Honors.
The Women’s Soccer team ended the year with a 7-9-2 regular season record and was 3-6-2 in Empire 8 action. In the regular season, the Saxons were the first Empire 8 team all year to score a goal against No. 1 seed and regular season champions, SUNY Brockport, falling at home, 2-1. In the Empire 8 playoffs, during the first round, the No. 8 seeded Saxons had a 1-0 lead over No. 1 Brockport before bowing out of the playoffs with the 3-1 loss to the tournament runner-ups. Three Saxons earned All-Empire 8 Honors.
The Women’s Volleyball team was the final team to earn a postseason berth, finishing the regular season with a 12-17 overall record and a 4-7 Empire 8 record. The Saxons, after having taken a set away from No. 1 seeded St. John Fisher University in the regular season finale, fell in the conference tournament, 3-0 to the Cardinals. The volleyball team had three members earn All-Empire 8 Honors.
The inaugural Alfred Cup, the head-to-head competition between Alfred University and neighboring Alfred State College, wrapped up its fall sport competition with the Pioneers leading, 8-4. Each team earns two points for a win and one for a tie. The A-State Men’s Soccer, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country and Football teams all defeated AU for the eight points. The Saxon Women’s Soccer team blanked A-State, 3-0. The AU Women’s Volleyball team, after having played a conference match at home earlier in the day, went up the hill and took a 3-1 win over the Pioneers for AU’s fourth point. Almost as soon as the Saxon Football team dropped a heroic, come-from-behind effort at A-State during the first Stoplight Trophy Game, the Saxon Men’s Basketball team walked over the Pioneers with a strong, 62-38 win at home, bringing the new score between the two institutions to an A-State, 8-6 lead.
