Welcome from Eliza Ordway, Director of Student Activities

Greetings, AU Families,

In the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), we work with over 70 clubs and organizations that offer endless possibilities for students to engage with our campus. If your student is looking for a club that is not on our roster, they can collaborate with us to develop it. The Center for Student Involvement oversees our Student Activities Board, Student Senate, and hosts our weekly $2 Movie Nights. We also regularly create a poster called the “Top 5” that highlights five events taking place each weekend. This poster is shared with all students in a weekly email from our Vice President for Student Experience, Amy DeKay.

Our office manages an online event management system called AU Connect and the CORQ app that is utilized by all clubs and many departments across campus. Both platforms can help your student connect with co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities/activities hosted by these clubs, organizations, and campus offices.

A few large-scale events that are coming up in April are:

  • Hot Dog Day, our annual spring festival happening on April 20, where Alfred University and Alfred State College partner with the Village of Alfred to host a street festival and carnival to benefit various local charities. The Hot Dog Day tradition is a great event that brings us together as a community for a day of celebration before the semester wraps up.
  • Unity Day, on April 24, is our annual celebration co-hosted by the Institute for Cultural Unity featuring the Common Ground Classes. This event allows student groups to highlight and educate the campus community on their cultural backgrounds.
  • Lastly, the second Annual Ball is set to take place on April 27. This formal event offers dinner and dancing for the students to raise money for a local charity.

Alfred University is a campus with rich and diverse program offerings. Opportunities for your student to become involved in the greater campus are plentiful. Our clubs and organizations are always growing and changing. Please encourage your student to engage with the Center for Student Involvement to see what’s going on or share their ideas for programming.

Fiat Lux!
