Commencement vs. Graduation
There is a difference between graduation and commencement. Even if your student isn’t a senior yet, this information may be helpful to review.
Commencement is a ceremony where the student’s accomplishments are celebrated. Graduation is the official awarding of the degree.
Students must complete a Graduation Application to be officially awarded their degree. On the application there is an area to complete if one desires to attend commencement.
Students will not graduate without a Graduation Application on file with the Registrar’s office regardless of attending commencement. Students can fill out the Graduation Application through their Banner Web.
We have a graduation checklist available online to help!
If your student is a senior, please check out the Commencement page on the AU webpage. Here you will find out about tickets, how to register to stay on campus, and more.
