{"id":1312,"date":"2015-03-07T13:18:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-07T18:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/expandedmedia\/?p=1312"},"modified":"2020-08-02T13:20:47","modified_gmt":"2020-08-02T17:20:47","slug":"silent-and-live-art-auction-to-top-off-the-endowment-to-launch-the-scholarship-in-memory-of-paul-vickers-lyon-2000-soad-bfa-and-senior-show-prizewinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/expandedmedia\/silent-and-live-art-auction-to-top-off-the-endowment-to-launch-the-scholarship-in-memory-of-paul-vickers-lyon-2000-soad-bfa-and-senior-show-prizewinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Silent and Live Art Auction to top off the endowment to launch the scholarship in memory of Paul \u201cVickers\u201d Lyon, 2000 SOAD BFA and Senior show prizewinner."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"760\" height=\"712\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/expandedmedia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/08\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-23-at-5.09.06-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1313\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vickers Gringo (Paul Daniel\u00a0Lyon,\u00a01978-2010) was a\u00a0multi- media artist based in New\u00a0York City\u2019s East\u00a0Village and Brooklyn.As a\u00a0young graphic cartoonist in 1999,\u00a0he began publishing his\u00a0\u201c70 Million Rats\u201d series in the city\u2019s edgy\u00a0music and contemporary arts magazine,\u00a0<em>The New\u00a0York\u00a0Waste<\/em>.\u00a0Eleven\u00a0years later,\u00a0\u00a0his first\u00a0book, The Best of 70 Million Rats,\u00a0was\u00a0released\u00a0by Zaza Graphics.\u00a0He left an unfinished graphic novel called\u00a0\u201cPests:\u00a0A Zombie Parable,\u201d at his untimely death at 32.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cVickers,\u201d was not only a graphic cartoonist and animator,\u00a0but he was also an accomplished video artist and\u00a0musician.\u00a0In 1996,\u00a0he\u00a0founded the\u00a0Avant-guard\u00a0rock group\u00a0The Deuce &amp; a Quarter,\u00a0and\u00a0worked as its lead guitarist-vocalists-song-writer on and off until his death.\u00a0His CD,\u00a0titled\u00a0Ten\u00a0Years Under the Knife,\u00a0was\u00a0released in 2007,\u00a0along with group videos and an interview.\u00a0A new Deuce CD is still in production.\u00a0For two\u00a0years,\u00a0Vickers was part of the two-man group\u00a0The Handsome Public,\u00a0which toured Iceland and the\u00a0U.K.\u00a0in 2008.<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVic\u2019s\u201d video\u00a0work was a mainstay component to his frequent\u00a0musical performances in New\u00a0York City,\u00a0at\u00a0venues like Manhattan\u2019s\u00a0The Knitting Factory and Brooklyn\u2019s\u00a0Trash Bar.\u00a0His\u00a0own video-artist\u00a0work includes the\u00a022-minute videos,\u00a0Glue\u00a0Trap Lust (2000,\u00a0color) and Son of Eyeball Man (2002,\u00a0color),\u00a0More\u00a0recently,\u00a0Vickers\u00a0released on\u00a0YouTube the experimental horror\u00a0film,\u00a0Attack of the Flying Head (2009,\u00a0color).\u00a0His video\u00a0work includes his\u00a0own\u00a0musical scores,\u00a0bizarre animations,\u00a0and macabre puppetry.\u00a0Vickers was also known\u00a0for his acting performances in a\u00a0number of other short art videos,\u00a0including the\u00a0recently\u00a0released Radio Girl (dir. Ronni\u00a0Thomas,\u00a02010).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work By Faculty and students will be on view Starting Friday March 27.Live Auction will feature John Gill and Joseph Scheer as auctioneers.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fosdick Nelson Gallery will be opened and refreshments will be served.
