{"id":2971,"date":"2023-09-14T14:42:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-14T14:42:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/aulibrarynews\/?p=2971"},"modified":"2023-09-27T20:53:55","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T20:53:55","slug":"placing-materials-on-course-reserves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/aulibrarynews\/2023\/09\/14\/placing-materials-on-course-reserves\/","title":{"rendered":"Placing Materials on Course Reserves"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty are invited to place course materials on&nbsp;Reserve at Alfred University Libraries.&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>What are&nbsp;Course&nbsp;Reserves?&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Library&#8217;s&nbsp;Course&nbsp;Reserves&nbsp;Service allows instructors to set aside books, DVDs, or other materials related to a current&nbsp;course&nbsp;for in-library use.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Reserve lists typically include required and recommended reading for a&nbsp;course&nbsp;but can include other items.<\/li><li>Items will remain on reserve for the semester while the&nbsp;course&nbsp;is running.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/aulibrarynews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2023\/09\/Front-Desk-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2974\" width=\"428\" height=\"284\" \/><figcaption>Student checks out reserve items at Scholes Library<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Why place items on&nbsp;Course&nbsp;Reserve in the Libraries?&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>This service allows students to share materials and can improve access to items that may be expensive or hard to obtain.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li><li>Students have expressed appreciation for having required reading on reserve as this can create substantial cost savings for them.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>What can be placed on&nbsp;Course&nbsp;Reserve in the Libraries?&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Library materials such as books, DVDs, or other media.<\/li><li>Instructor-owned materials.&nbsp;(Items are returned at the end of the semester\/year)&nbsp;<\/li><li>Non-traditional items like shared equipment or small supplies needed for a&nbsp;course&nbsp;and which are a good match for storing in a library. Previous examples have included plug-and-play keyboards, specialized calculators, and small tool kits for group projects.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>How do I submit a&nbsp;Course&nbsp;Reserve Request?&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Person&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Visit Herrick or Scholes Library and select the items from the shelf that you would like to place on&nbsp;Course&nbsp;Reserve.
