The posters were created by students in Prof. Vicki Eaklor\u2019s spring semester Women in Society class.<br \/>\nThe posters explore topics in women&#8217;s history, including women in athletics, reproductive rights, the birth control pill, and the Guerrilla Girls.<br \/>\n<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1518 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.alfred.edu\/aulibrarynews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/02\/guerilla_girls.jpg\" alt=\"guerilla_girls\" width=\"432\" height=\"247\" \/><\/strong><br \/>\nWomen\u2019s History Month\u00a0became a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as \u201cWomen\u2019s History Week.&#8221; Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as &#8220;Women\u2019s History Week.&#8221; \u00a0In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women\u2019s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as \u201cWomen\u2019s History Month.&#8221; \u00a0Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women\u2019s History Month. Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as \u201cWomen\u2019s History Month.\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A series of poster presentations are on display in Herrick Library in honor of Women&#8217;s History Month.
